About Me....

Kathie McIlvride has worked as a freelance calligrapher/lettering artist for the past twenty years, and her various card designs have been published across North America. A career in dance that never materialized has found expression in her work as she uses traditional disciplines in conjunction with freedom of form and expression to affirm a whimsical approach to life. The use of dynamic colour in her work results in an enthusiastic celebration in the midst of everyday commonalities, inspired by the playful wonder and innocence of children and the beauty and grace of dance.

Kathie has studied lettering arts and watercolour techniques in North America and Europe under such recognized artists as Donald Jackson (the Queen's calligrapher), Carl Rohr, Nancy Ouchida-Howells, David Howells, Mark van Stone, Susan Skarsgard, and Martin Jackson. She has also studied at Mount Royal College (Calgary, Alberta) and The Alberta College of Art and Design. Her work has been featured in ABC Canada (a calligraphy book focusing on Canadian calligraphers).

Kathie works out of her century home studio in Winnipeg, Manitoba and can be contacted at kathiem@kathiemac.com.
